Shopping for sushi at Oto Japanese Market place in Sacramento

So today I decided that I would make my own sushi at home. I decided to visit Oto Japanese Supermarket in Sacramento. It is similar to a Trader Joe's in size.

Sadly, I came on a Monday when the head sushi chef at the sushi deli was unavailable. Usually Oto has a head sushi chef working everyday except Sunday and Monday.

Oto Supermarket however still had an awesome variety of sushi sashimi such as bluefin tuna, red tuna, and salmon. The sashimi is all pre-cleaned for you and ready to cut.

I also picked up 10 pieces of frozen shrimp tempura that I put into the oven.

On each roll I put avocado, crab and shrimp tempura on the inside. and then put salmon sashimi on top sprinkled with sesame seeds. Along with a spicy mayonnaise sauce I made using light mayonnaise and red chili powder.

3 Things I loved about Oto Supermarket.

1) The employees were all White or Japanese and spoke excellent english.

2) The people shopping there were mostly old japanese women, who unlike chinese women, are very polite and have great etiquette. One old japanese woman, stopped to talk to me while I was picking out my seaweed wrap for the sushi and gave me her expert opinion after looking at all the sushi wraps Oto supermarket had for sale.

3) The sushi sashimi was very fresh and did not taste fishy at all even though I came on an off day when they don't have their head sushi chef.

4) Pricing is very average, i'd say its about the same as buying from safeway.
